A seminary is a fertile ground, as it originates from the Latin word Seminarium which means a nursery for growing plants from seeds, where priestly vocations are being grown and are nourished with utmost care and constant attention. The seminary years are a time when one embarks on a journey, explores, and discovers Christ, the Good Shepherd.

For 40 years, Good Shepherd Seminary has been striving to help faithful men become worthy instruments of God as priests. The time spent in the seminary is a time of growth towards human maturity. Seminarians come from all walks of life, with previous educational experiences, family backgrounds, and parishes. Their time in the formation is enriched by their diverse talents, insights, and experiences. The seminary is a place where seminarians learn together and from each other.

Major seminaries focus on the formation of shepherds of souls, following the model of our Lord Jesus Christ, as teacher, priest, and shepherd (Optatam Totius, the Decree on Priestly Training, OT, 4). The disciplines of seminary life are not only a strong safeguard of community life and of charity but also for “self-mastery, solid personal maturity, and other dispositions of mind which greatly aid the ordered and fruitful activity of the Church” (OT, 11).
