ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THEOLOGY COURSE

Admission
Admission to Theology Course is open to all students who have passed a Bachelor's degree course in Philosophy or a Two year non-degree Philosophy. It is also expected that the candidate should have completed at least one year of Regency and gained a considerable experience in pastoral ministry. The students are to complete 180 ECTS in obligatory, supplementary and other additional subjects.
Examinations
Examinations are held for every course at the end of the each semester. Of the 100 marks 20 marks are allotted for internal assessment (which may consist of class test or two pages of written work or preparation and presenting of class notes) and 80 marks are allotted for the final exam. The mode of exam may be written or oral, and the decision is left to the discretion of the professor. The minimum required marks for passing a subject are 40 out of 100. If a student fails in any subject, he must appear for re-examination in the subject in the beginning of the next semester. The students of Second year of Theology are to write a dissertation on a Theological theme of their choice under the guidance of a moderator for 45-60 pages, defend it and submit it to the Co- ordinator of Theology.

Comprehensive Examinations
At the end of the third year of Theology, the students are to appear for Comprehensive Examinations. Ten questions are given from Scripture, Systematic Theology and Moral Theology respectively. For Written Exams, the students choose by lot three questions from each of the three disciplines and finally answer one from each discipline. They are given five hours to answer all the three questions. For the Oral Exam, they have to appear before a panel of examiners of the three above mentioned disciplines. The time given for the exam is 15 minutes, in which the students are expected to present their allotted thesis for seven minutes and the rest will be taken by the examiners to test the comprehensive knowledge of the students in the subjects taught.

Grading System

Marks and the grade assigned to those who take examinations are given below: Pass Mark 40% Third Class 41 – 59% Second Class 60 – 69% First Class 70 – 79% Distinction 80 – 100%

ECTS means the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. It is a tool of the European Higher Education Area for making studies and courses more transparent. It helps students to move between countries and to have their academic qualifications and study periods abroad recognised. Every subject, academic activity and written work is allotted one or more ECTS depending on the need. One ECTS comprises 15 working hours and 15 hours of learning activity outside class. One hour refers to 45 minutes of teaching or didactic activity.
